Bridge To The Future

Whether or not you favor the Hoover Dam Bypass bridge, it’s a fact of life, and worthy of a brief journey along Highway 93 to see its progress for yourself! Completion is presently slated for mid- to late 2010.

Called a “twin rib concrete arch” with a 1060’ span, the project corridor is some 3.5 miles and as with Hoover Dam, is anchored in Nevada and Arizona. Engineers are building from the outside to meet in the middle. Glad it’s them and not me! When open it is expected to be formally dubbed the Mike O’Callaghan-Pat Tillman Memorial Bridge.

After you ooh! and aah! over this engineering wonder, cruise back into Boulder City for lunch at one of our signature restaurants. We are SO lucky to live in a classic Main Street American setting with a variety of dining options you can’t find elsewhere. Check out hooverdam bypass.org for more information.

TOWN TREASURES - A deep-seated love of working with the public lured Marie Sullivan to our infant Boulder City Hoover Dam Museum in September 1989. Eighty-four years ago near Tulsa, OK Marie started life never dreaming of a move to Clean Green in July 1989. Marie’s trek after Business College included 9 years in Albuquerque, NM with the Chamber of Commerce. Seven years with Gallup, NM’s Chamber of Commerce and the Convention and Visitor’s Bureau, where she helped open the State Welcome Center, gave Marie a boat load more public service credentials before the Boulder City Hoover Dam Museum snagged her!

Marie asserts, “You have to like people and have fun!” Knowledge of Boulder City came from Mayor Bob Ferraro and other Town Treasures who taught Marie to love our community. Stop by the Museum Gift Shop in the Boulder Dam Hotel to meet our Town Treasure – thanks Marie, for all you do!

NEAT NEVADA NOTES: With over 500 miles of shoreline, Lake Mead is considered the largest man-made lake in the Western Hemisphere and it's right in our back yard. Unwind your mind enjoying sparkling water and stunning sunsets year-round.
