Strategic Planning
The Boulder City Police Department is pleased to embark upon a strategic planning process. We have enlisted the expertise of Larry Vierra, Director of the Small Business Development Center at UNLV, to facilitate this process.

He is offering his expertise, as well as that of his staff, at no cost to the City of Boulder City. The strategic plan will serve as a guide for future Police Department decisions in areas such as budget preparation and allocation of resources. It will allow the Department to carry out a host of initiatives identified as being crucial by those who contributed to the plan.

In addition to Mr. Vierra, several other people have been enlisted to assist us through this planning process. Lettie Zimmerman, Jill Rowland-Lagan, Joe Roche, The Honorable Victor Lee Miller, Court Administrator Bernie Graham, Community Development Director Brok Armantrout, Dispatcher Rose Sandoval and Aaron Johnson, have all agreed to assist Chief Finn and I in creating this important document. Throughout the next few months, we will be seeking your input as we create a roadmap for the next five years of the Boulder City Police Department. Your opportunity for input is available at the City’s Website, at www.bcnv.org.

As we chart out our future, we cannot forget our past. To that end, the police department has embarked upon the creation of a 50-year history book. This book will chart out our history and again, we are seeking your input. If you have any old photos, short stories, or information relating to our history, we want to hear from you. Information can be passed on to Officer Robert Woolsey at Rwoolsey@bcnv.org. Officer Woolsey has graciously offered to spearhead this committee and has already dedicated countless hours to documenting our past.

Lastly, I want to invite everyone to National Night Out on August 4, 2009. This annual event not only serves as the host of the annual police/fire softball game, but it provides an opportunity for you to interact with your police and fire employees. Dispatchers, firefighter/paramedics and police officers will be there to celebrate Boulder City and our public safety officials, and we will provide educational opportunities relating to drugs, crime and disorder in Boulder City.

Until next month, stay safe!
