A 2007 graduate from Boulder City High School, Katie demonstrated leadership skills early on, serving as both senior class secretary and class valedictorian. In addition, Katie was a participant in the Global Young Leaders Conference and was named "Outstanding Student of America" in 2007. This prestigious honor is awarded to only 1% of high school students annually.
In addition to her academic and school related activities, Katie served as Congressman Porter’s Congressional Page in 2006 and recently completed an internship in his district office. A marketing major, Katie is entering her junior year at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. While serving the constituents in Nevada’s Third Congressional District, she will continue her academic studies through distance education courses.
“This is an outstanding opportunity to showcase the achievements and dedication of a native Nevadan,” Congressman Porter said recently. “This year’s selection process was extremely difficult, but we are confident in Katie’s abilities and strengths. We look forward to her continued service and we are excited to witness her future successes.”
To be considered for an internship, students must demonstrate exceptional academic and writing skills, a commitment to public service and an interest in and comprehension of the political process. Washington, D.C. internships are highly competitive and are awarded to two students each semester.
