It's Free!
Still recovering from holiday spending? Maybe you didn’t realize how many FREE attractions there are in our Las Vegas Valley! For example, in Downtown Las Vegas, every hour from dusk to midnight the Fremont Street Experience presents an overhead show via 12.5 million LED lights in sync with high quality sound. For information, 678-5600.

While enjoying Mayor Goodman’s Downtown, check out fully restored neon signs from Las Vegas of old at various locations along Fremont Street; for info, 387-6366.

Off Strip, the Rio on Flamingo just west of I-15 celebrates Carnivale hourly 6 pm to midnight with festive overhead floats, some featuring lavishly costumed ladies and gents tossing out Mardi Gras type beads, 777-7777. Also Off Strip, the Hard Rock Hotel, at Harmon and Paradise displays rock ‘n roll memorabilia on walls throughout the property. Everything from guitars to costumes showcase past and present celebs, 693-5000.

Wa-a-a-y off Strip at Blue Diamond and I-15, the Silverton features impressive fresh and salt water aquariums. At 117,000 gallons, their main aquarium has an artificial reef and more than 4,000 exotic fish from around the world, including sting rays and sharks. The humongous octagonal tank has 360 degree viewing! Daily at 1:30 pm, 4:30 pm and 7:30 pm divers with special masks feed the tank’s residents and simultaneously answer questions from observers. The Hotel also has two large jellyfish displays and a Koi display. Within the Bass Pro Shop, fresh water aquariums separately emulate a Nevada Stream and a Nevada Lake. Their flowing canyon displays seven duck species, turtles and fish, 263-7777.

Neat Nevada Notes: Lover’s Lock Plaza next to the famous Round Pershing County Courthouse in Lovelock, Nevada is the site for a romantic ancient custom borrowed from the Chinese. Click a lock tight with your special someone on a never ending chain and throw away the key to unite your love for eternity! Lovelock, 93 miles east of Reno, was named for an early shopkeeper, and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
