Atlatl Rock?

Have you seen Atlatl Rock or trekked to the Mouse’s Tank? Before summer swoops down on us, spring is the perfect season to visit Valley of Fire State Park, dedicated in 1935.

If you have already experienced Valley of Fire, it’s time to go back; if you have never been there, don’t wait! Oldest and biggest of Nevada’s State Parks and strikingly beautiful any time of day, you only have to be there early morning or late afternoon to especially appreciate brilliant red sandstone and petroglyphs. Camping, picnicking and hiking offer up close glimpses of the Mojave Desert, beautiful wild flowers, cactus and hardy desert critters that have adapted to our harsh climate, although it’s too early for stick lizards! Park entrance is only $6 per car, and camping only $14 per vehicle. Take Lakeshore Road to Northshore Road to get there in about 90 minutes; 702-397-2088, www.parks.nv.gov.

|April brings Logandale’s annual Clark County Fair, Thursday April 10 through Sunday April 13. Exhibits range from fine arts to large and small animals, and the best pies. This year’s concert is Thursday the 10th at 8:30 pm featuring Emerson Drive. The carnival operates throughout the Fair with thrills for young and old! Over $250,000 in prize money is at stake during each night’s PRCA Rodeo; all seats are reserved. For more information and advance tickets, visit www.ccfair.com or call 888-876-3247.

Tourism Tidbits From Travel Industry Association: “Travel and tourism is a $1.6 TRILLION industry in the U.S.” Let’s welcome tourists and show them old fashioned hospitality during their visit to Boulder City!

Neat Nevada Notes: Searchlight, a small community about 45 minutes south of Boulder City on Highway 95, is home town to U.S. Senator Harry Reid, current Senate Majority Leader. Founded in 1898, both gold and silver were mined there. Several hundred residents are spread over a bit more than 13 square miles. Searchlight is home to Nevada Historical Marker 116, Searchlight Historic Museum & Historic Mining Park, and without a doubt the ultimate Chicken Fried Steak at the Searchlight Nugget Casino on Highway. 95.
