Communicating With Boulder City

THIRD WEDNESDAY POLICE FORUM
I am pleased to announce a new program that will begin September 19, 2007 at Boulder City Starbucks. The third Wednesday of each month will be an opportunity for you to learn more about the happenings in Boulder City through the eyes of the Police Department staff.

Starting in September, Chief Finn and I will host a monthly forum to discuss issues ranging from identity theft, the traffic unit activities and narcotics related concerns.

September will be an opportunity for you to meet with Chief Finn and I to discuss your thoughts on policing in Boulder City. The forum will also provide an opportunity for you to give us your ideas on the Police Department, on how we can better serve you, the citizens of Boulder City, and to find out if we are currently meeting your needs. In addition to the topics of discussion, the forum will provide everyone the opportunity to meet the Police Department staff and allow you to put a face to the voice on the phone. We look forward to meeting with each of you in the coming months.

CITIZEN’S ACADEMY XXI SCHEDULED
The Boulder City Police Department is also kicking off Citizen’s Academy XXI. For any member of our community that wants to learn more about the police profession, I strongly encourage you to attend. This ten-week course, which meets Tuesday evenings starting September 18, 2007, will cover a variety of topics from firearms, illegal narcotics, and crime scene investigation, to name a few. We will also address the age-old question often asked of us, “Why are there two police cars on each traffic stop?” This course will provide you another opportunity to meet many of the Police Department staff committed to keeping you safe each and every day. Space is limited, so I encourage you to sign up early. You can obtain an application at the Police Department Dispatch Center, via e-mail, or simply by calling me directly.

The Police Department receives many questions about operational assets and tactics. This added emphasis on communication is our way of opening our doors to you, the citizens of Boulder City. Chief Finn and I are hopeful you will accept our invitation as we open our doors to you.

Until next month, stay safe.
