Stand Tall Don't Fall
Stand Tall Don’t Fall is a federally funded program whose mission is to curtail underage drinking. Boulder City has been an active partner with Stand Tall Don’t Fall as we attempt to deal effectively with issues involving underage drinking by our youth.

We conduct an underage alcohol procurement program on a regular basis where we send people under the age of 21 into establishments that either sell or distribute alcohol in an effort to procure alcohol. Unfortunately, we have not realized the results we hoped for.

While conducting these tests, we averaged about 7 attempts out of 10 yielding a successful alcohol buy. Seeing no apparent effect in lowering these numbers, we further collaborated with Stand Tall Don’t Fall to try other measures. K-9 Officer Paul Daly coordinated for an educational luncheon and subsequent, “Server Training” to be offered to anyone who works in Boulder City and serves or sells alcohol. The luncheon was well received with approximately 30 participants attending and learning about the effects of alcohol and best practices in keeping alcohol out of the hands of youth. We have currently provided training to an additional 15 people. More instruction is forthcoming on this program and available to people in Boulder City that either sell or distribute alcoholic beverages. The classes will take place the last Wednesday in February, March and April at 6 p.m. Contact Officer Paul Daly (293-9410) for more information on this training. To learn more about the Stand Tall Don’t Fall Program, contact the Project Coordinator for the State of Nevada, Diane Pidsosny at 436-2920.

New Chief Selected
The next chief for the City of Boulder City has been selected and is gearing up for a March 27th, 2006 start date. Chief Thomas Finn comes to us highly recommended from East Brunswick, New Jersey. Formerly, Chief Finn, a 25-year police veteran and Deputy Chief, was a public safety director for East Brunswick. Committed to continued education and to the professional advancement of law enforcement, he is anxiously awaiting the opportunity to serve Boulder City and to work with city staff; specifically the police employees.
