Police Department Updates
The Boulder City Police Department is embarking on several new frontiers as this year comes to an end and we begin planning for 2007 and beyond. First and foremost we are moving forward with the construction of a long-overdue Animal Shelter. After many discussions, revisions and requests for proposals, we are finally prepping ourselves to begin construction. We hope to have a new Animal Control facility by July of 2007.

Secondly, we are beginning construction of a new dispatch center within the existing police department. This new state of the art facility will be located in the old senior center administrative offices. Construction on that project began in late November and is scheduled to be done around August 2007. This new dispatch center with a newly acquired 800 MHZ Radio system will allow for better, more efficient interoperability with our neighboring jurisdictions. This project is approximately 90% funded by a federal grant obtained from the Department of Homeland Security. The remaining funds will be obtained from a pre-approved capital improvement bond question passed in 1982.

Thirdly, we are finalizing design plans for the portion of our building that has been recently vacated by the Senior Center. While we thoroughly enjoyed them as our neighbors, we anticipate the expansion of our facility to provide a more efficient and healthy workspace. The most significant change that will be recognized by folks that visit the police department once this project is completed is that nearly every office will be upstairs – allowing easier access to our employees.

As this year comes to a close I would be remiss not to remind everyone to lock their doors and be cognizant of your surroundings. Residential burglaries often increase during the holiday season – even people that prey upon innocent victims enjoy a holiday gift. The holiday season also bring with it the desire to celebrate – perhaps the opportunity to enjoy a few cocktails. Celebrate all that you would like; however please do not drive after drinking – the chances of us raining on your celebration are quite good. Until next year, stay safe!
