Citizen's Academy Planned
Have you ever wondered why two police cars are on every traffic stop? What type of resources does your police department have at its disposal if something really bad happens in Boulder City? These questions, in addition to a whole lot more, will be answered at the upcoming Citizen’s Police Academy.

The Citizens Police Academy is a long-standing tradition for the Department dating back nearly 20 years as we attempt to educate our community about the policing profession. The target audience for the academy is anyone 18 and older interested in learning about policing services in Boulder City. Although the dates are not locked in on this one day a week, ten week program, it will be starting some time in September. The academy will cover many aspects of policing, including topics such as traffic stops and building searches, to the firing range where you will have the opportunity to fire department issued firearms.

More importantly than the training and information you will receive on the police profession, you will have the opportunity to meet and interact with many of Boulder City’s finest. It is our goal, throughout the academy, to introduce you to as many of your police employees as possible. You will be introduced into a rich culture with a long history and a noble cause, to make our community the safest community bar-none. We recognize this vision cannot be accomplished on our own. It is our intent to provide you with the tools you need to better protect yourself and others against crime. Together we can have an impact on our quality of life in Boulder City.

Like everything good in life, there is a downside to attending the academy – you will no longer be able to truly enjoy, beyond simply entertainment value, the various “reality” policing programs on television. All kidding aside, this is bound to be a must attend academy. It gives me great pleasure, on behalf of Chief Thomas Finn, to invite you to attend. However, due to the curriculum, space is limited. If you are interested in attending the next citizen’s academy scheduled to start in September, feel free to contact Administrative Assistant Pat Spero at 293-9214, or myself at 293-9348.

Until next month, stay safe.
