Spotlight on Business

“OPENING TODAY!
New Cleaning Plant for Boulder City! New modern equipment will get out more spots, more dirt, make colors sparkle, garments look like new.”
Such read the ad in the Boulder City News September 19, 1946. But by January, 1948 the new plant was razed by a blazing inferno. Owners O.L. Raney and Don Belding quickly regrouped and began construction on their new laundry building, now relocated to 1300 Wyoming Street just across from the Boulder Dam Hotel. The new laundry business continued to serve the local community for more than two decades. Thereafter, until about 2002, the building was used as office space by local businesses such as Richner Air and Barth Electronics.
Fast forward to April, 2006:
“OPENING SOON!
GoatFeathers, A Boulder City Emporium!”
New owner Wendell “Doc” Butler, is putting the finishing touches on a complete renovation of the ageing beauty. But leave the laundry at home this time around. GoatFeathers will be the new home for over 100 artisans and crafters displaying their unique gifts and handmade creations. Shoppers can find that perfect birthday present, home accent, or holiday special in the over 6,000 square feet of selling space that begins with Phase I in April.
Even as patrons discover the treasures to be found inside the "Old Laundry Building," Phase II will begin, adding an additional 2,000 square feet. This area will offer even more space for crafters in our “Country Store,” featuring country décor, primitives, and down home collectibles.
Many of the vendors were with “Doc” at The American Craft Mall in Las Vegas in 2003. Among them you’ll find candle makers, soap makers, woodworkers, decorative glass artists, painters and many others making everything from A to Z. Home-based artists/crafters enjoy focusing their time on their new ideas and creations, letting GoatFeathers worry about the day-to-day aspects of running the business. The store provides a “turn-key” opportunity for existing and first-time vendors. Advertising and a well-trained management team are part of the over-all package offered to new members of the GoatFeathers’ family.
Watch for our GRAND OPENING in April or call 379-8016.
