It Sounds Too Good To Be True!

You may have seen the ads about a super-advanced 10 mega-pixel camera with all kinds of features and software for only $299. Don't pull out your checkbook just yet!

Do a little research first. Go to Digital Photography Review online at www.dpreview.com. You’ll find all the latest in digital photography and imaging news, reviews of the latest digital cameras and accessories, active discussion forums, a large selection of sample images, a digital camera buyers guide, camera comparisons and the most comprehensive database of digital camera features and specifications. I looked for this super-advanced 10 mega-pixel camera and it was not even listed in the reviews so I searched the messages and found some nice little reviews from people that have one or have used one. And guess what? The word is that the pictures, lens and camera are poor quality and many buyers are saying “don’t waste your money.”

For $299 you can buy a great 5 mega-pixel camera that does not use interpolation to achieve 10.0 mega-pixels. What interpolation means is that software is used to make a small picture larger. So you can buy a camera like the super-advanced 10 mega-pixel camera and it really might only be a 1 mega-pixel camera. When it says that you can get up to 160 pictures on the built-in 16 megs of memory, your pictures will be so small they will be the size of a postage stamp. The pictures from my Olympus 50/50 5 mega-pixel camera are about 3 megs per picture, so I could only save 5 pictures on a 16 meg chip!

A 5 mega-pixel camera will work for most people, and stay with a good name brand like AGFA, Canon, Epson, Fuji, Kodak, Nikon, Olympus, Panasonic, Pentax or Sony. I buy at Costco so if I have a problem with the camera I can return it.

Don’t forget to back up your files! I have seen 3 hard drive failures this month. Guess how many of the 3 were backed up? Zero! So back up now!
