Park Outings
While taking pictures of the new playground equipment at Veterans' Memorial Park, I happened upon a small group of Veterans from the Nevada State Veterans Home picnicking and playfully being squirted with water guns by the staff. It was a pleasure to see them enjoying themselves so much. I let them know that a group of kids would soon arrive. It was clear they were happy to share their space and looked forward to the sounds of active children.

The kids from the Boulder City Parks and Recreation Department Summer Safekey program arrived in vans and immediately dashed to the playground equipment and splash park. They quickly learned the tricks of the water buckets, played follow the leader and twirled around on the merry-go-round until they couldn’t stand. It was a joy to watch them dashing from the slides, to the splash park water cannons, back to the swings, then dash back again to the splash park to join in a dosing of water from the water buckets. They just couldn’t get enough. The Safekey staff was phenomenal interacting with the kids and were clearly enjoying themselves too.

Later, the Veterans were helped into their vans, content with the day’s activity. Upon leaving the park, I stopped to take pictures of the Hemenway Park Concession Building. As progress continues on the concession building, it is clear to see what wonderful potential the Hemenway Ball Fields have in meeting multiple needs in the community.

It was a truly rewarding experience to see the City’s efforts packaged so beautifully. Veterans’ Memorial Park with its beautiful views of open space and multiple uses servicing our diversified community, the vans provided by Clark County and Mr. Ron Pratte to transport the kids to this marvelous facility, and our committed city staff, without whom none of this would be possible.

Thank you for letting me share this little moment in time. I wish you all could have been there to experience what I did. We are blessed to live in a community that cares for its citizens, young and old alike, and that takes great pride in the quality of life in Boulder City.
